The Labour Party has announced the indefinite suspension of six prominent members, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senators Darlington Nwokocha and Ireti Kingibe, due to alleged anti-party activities.

The other suspended members are Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowunmi.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party’s National Executive Council explained that the decision was made following recommendations from a five-member Disciplinary Committee established on May 2, 2025, to investigate the allegations.

The statement, signed by National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim, indicated that the suspensions take immediate effect, barring the affected members from participating in any Labour Party activities.

“Recall that on May 2, 2025, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party set up a five-member Disciplinary Committee, led by Deputy National Chairman Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, to investigate allegations of anti-party conduct involving Governor Alex Otti and other party members,” the statement read.

The Disciplinary Committee has since concluded its investigation and submitted its report to the party leadership. Following a thorough deliberation, the NEC ratified the Committee’s recommendations during a meeting on May 7, 2025.

The suspended members are:

1. Dr. Alex Otti
2. Senator Ireti Kingibe
3. Senator Darlington Nwokocha
4. Hon. Victor Afam Ogene
5. Hon. Amobi Ogah
6. Hon. Seyi Sowunmi

The party also addressed the omission of Nenadi Usman from the suspension list, clarifying that she is not a registered member of the Labour Party but rather a supporter of its 2023 presidential candidate.

“We recognize her affiliation with the Obidient Support Group that worked for the party’s presidential candidate in 2023. Therefore, we will not impose any sanctions on her as she is not a party member,” the statement noted.

Additionally, the Labour Party criticized Usman for her alleged lack of moral authority to comment on corruption, referencing her reported plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and asset forfeitures.

“She should clarify how she acquired her radio station in Kaduna and her properties across Nigeria and abroad, including her companies in Cameroon,” the statement added. “Nenadi Usman lacks the moral capacity to initiate any probe or discuss corruption.”

Reaffirming its political stance, the Labour Party stated it will not enter into any coalitions or mergers ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The Labour Party intends to contest the 2027 general election as a standalone party, and no further discussions on this matter will be entertained,” the statement concluded.
