In a dramatic political twist ahead of the 2027 governorship battle in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reportedly withdrawn support for Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki and endorsed Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as his preferred successor.

Danladi-Salihu, who hails from Kwara North, is expected to contest the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside other aspirants during the party’s primary election scheduled for today.

The development signals a major shift within the ruling party’s power structure in the state and is likely to reshape alliances ahead of the fiercely contested race to succeed AbdulRazaq.

Political observers say the governor’s latest move could strengthen calls for power rotation to Kwara North, a region that has long pushed for greater representation in the state’s top political office.

Neither the governor nor Yahaya Seriki had publicly commented on the reported change in endorsement at the time of reporting.
