Emerging political alignments ahead of Nigeria’s next electoral cycle have taken a significant turn, as a key aide to Peter Obi has confirmed that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has agreed in principle to serve as a vice presidential running mate.

Speaking on the development, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, an aide to Obi, stated that discussions between the two political figures have progressed beyond preliminary stages.

“I can categorically say that he agreed,” Abdulkarim said, emphasizing that both leaders have held multiple meetings to solidify the arrangement.

He added that plans are underway to convene a joint summit bringing together supporters of both movements — the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient groups — signaling a potential formalisation of the alliance.

While neither Obi nor Kwankwaso has publicly confirmed the agreement, the reported development points to a strategic effort to consolidate political bases and strengthen opposition positioning ahead of future elections.
