Part of  ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, Mr. Kerim Idris Jolly, a Keke Napep driver and firewood vendor, was released by his kidnappers after a tense negotiation that culminated in the payment of a ransom. Mr. Jolly was abducted last week along the Ogbogbo-Oforachi road in Nsukka, Kogi State, sparking concern among local residents and raising questions about the effectiveness of security measures in the region.

According to family sources, Mr. Jolly was taken by armed kidnappers while going about his daily routine, leaving his loved ones in a state of distress. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of 2.5 million naira for his release, a sum that was beyond the financial means of his family. However, after intense negotiations, the ransom was reduced to 1 million naira, which the family managed to raise through community support and personal sacrifices.

The family expressed their deep frustration over the lack of intervention from security agencies during the ordeal. Despite numerous appeals for assistance, they felt abandoned and left to fend for themselves in the face of such a dire situation. “We were left at the mercy of the kidnappers,” a family member lamented. “There was no significant effort from the security forces to rescue him or secure his release. We had to rely on our own resources and the goodwill of our community.”

After the ransom was paid, Mr. Jolly was released unharmed, but the trauma of the experience has left a lasting impact on him and his family.
