Kogi: Governor Ododo Donates ₦9 Million to Widows of Fallen Soldiers at Army WASA 2025

Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has empowered nine widows of fallen soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade with a donation of N9 million. The announcement was made during the Nigerian Army West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 event held on Saturday at Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Lokoja.

As the special guest of honour, Governor Ododo praised the Nigerian Army for upholding the WASA tradition, highlighting its role in fostering unity, camaraderie, and cultural heritage among military personnel and their families. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to backing the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, commending the Brigade for their dedication to maintaining peace and security in Kogi State.

Represented at the event by the State Security Adviser, Cdr Jerry Omodara (rtd), the governor underscored the importance of resilience and focus in the army’s constitutional duties. Omodara, speaking to journalists post-event, lauded the Brigade’s recent successful clearance operations and assured continued government support for security efforts in the state.

Brigadier-General Kasim Sidi, Commander of the 12 Brigade, reaffirmed the military’s pledge to ensure the safety and security of Kogi citizens. He described WASA as a vital occasion that unites officers, soldiers, families, and friends to celebrate shared identity, cultural heritage, and collective achievements. The commander also expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Waidi Shaibu, for their unwavering support.

The event featured vibrant cultural displays from diverse ethnic groups such as the Hausa, Igbo, Okun, Igala, Ebira, Fulani, Langtang, Zuru, and Nupe, alongside entertainment that fostered a spirit of unity and celebration. Outstanding service personnel were recognized for their contributions, including those deployed across various locations within the state.

WASA 2025 concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to dignitaries and the Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the Nigerian Army’s commitment to diversity, professionalism, and community engagement.
