Niger State Governor has said that the victims of last week’s terrorist attack on the Kasuwan Daji market were Muslims and Christians from multiple communities, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the assault.
Speaking during a visit to the affected area, the governor stressed that the tragedy had touched families across religious and ethnic lines, describing the attack as “an assault on our shared humanity”.
“This was not an attack on one religion or one tribe,” he said. “The victims are Muslims and Christians from different communities who were simply going about their daily lives.”
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting survivors and families of those affected. He also called for unity among residents, urging them not to allow fear or division to take root.
Security agencies, he added, had intensified operations in the area following the incident, with investigations ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Local community leaders have also appealed for calm, emphasising the need for collective resilience and cooperation with authorities in restoring peace.
The Kasuwan Daji market attack has drawn widespread condemnation from across Nigeria, with calls for stronger protection of rural communities that continue to face threats from armed groups.
