The governor of Nigeria’s north-western state of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has declared that the political landscape in the region has effectively tilted into a one-party system dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Thursday in Kaduna while hosting a delegation from the presidency, Sani said opposition politics in the state had virtually disappeared, leaving the APC without any meaningful challenger.

The delegation included Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who visited the governor as part of ongoing engagements with state leadership.

According to Sani, the dominance of the All Progressives Congress reflects shifting political realities in the state, where opposition parties have steadily lost ground in recent electoral cycles.

He described the situation as evidence of the party’s growing acceptance among residents, insisting that political competition in Kaduna has significantly weakened.

The comments come amid broader national debates about political pluralism in Nigeria’s democracy, where concerns are periodically raised about the shrinking influence of opposition parties.

Neither the presidency nor opposition parties immediately issued a formal response to the governor’s remarks.
