In response to former President Donald Trump’s 48-hour ultimatum demanding Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Ali Mousavi, reaffirmed that the strategic waterway remains open to all vessels except those deemed “enemies” of Iran.
Mousavi stated that ships are permitted to transit the strait provided that security and safety protocols are coordinated with Iranian authorities. He emphasized Tehran’s readiness to cooperate with the IMO and other countries to enhance maritime safety and protect seafarers operating in the Persian Gulf.
“Diplomacy remains Iran’s priority,” Mousavi said, while stressing that a complete cessation of aggressive acts and the establishment of mutual trust and confidence are crucial for lasting peace in the region.
He also blamed U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran as the underlying causes of the current tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz.
