The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Sunday led delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the party’s national convention held in Abuja.
The convention is expected to ratify the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s substantive National Working Committee (NWC).
Unlike a previous convention organised by the rival Turaki faction, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to monitor the Wike-backed gathering.
Wike had earlier maintained that the PDP’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 would proceed as planned despite internal opposition.
Speaking at the event, the FCT minister said efforts would be intensified to reconcile aggrieved members after the conclusion of the convention, in a bid to restore unity within the party.
