Former Senator Ishaku Abbo has strongly denied allegations that he is working as a mole for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) within the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting he has resisted intense pressure to defect despite high-level overtures.

In a frank statement addressing the deepening crisis in the Adamawa State chapter of the ADC, Abbo revealed he was accused of being “a Bunani mole” – a spy – after urging party leaders not to frustrate potential members.

“I told them that even APC, with all their power, is still looking for people. So we should not frustrate people out of ADC. But they then said I am a Bunani mole. Imagine,” he said.

Abbo, who previously served as personal assistant to National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for 30 months, disclosed that APC figures had attempted to lure him back through Ribadu, but he refused.

“Mallam Nuhu Ribadu… sent APC members to take me to him, but I refused. I know the calls we are receiving from the high hierarchy of APC, but we chose to remain in ADC,” he added.

The remarks come amid growing internal turmoil in the ADC, particularly in Adamawa State, where factional disputes, leadership wrangling and accusations of betrayal have threatened party unity ahead of planned congresses and the 2027 general elections.

Abbo’s comments highlight the fluid and often bitter nature of Nigerian opposition politics, where defections and counter-allegations are common as parties position themselves against the dominant APC.

The African Democratic Congress has been gaining traction as a potential alternative platform, attracting defectors from both the APC and PDP, but it has also been plagued by internal divisions in several states.
Neither the ADC national leadership nor APC officials have immediately responded to Abbo’s latest statements.

Political observers say the crisis in Adamawa ADC reflects broader challenges facing Nigeria’s opposition as it attempts to build a credible front against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
