Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), says he will spend this year’s Sallah break with the Sultan of Sokoto if he wins the presidency.
In an interview on Arise TV, Obi criticised President Bola Tinubu for staying in Lagos over the holiday. He said he would head north instead, use the occasion to bring Nigerians together, and hold talks about the country’s future.
“Sallah and everything, he (Tinubu) spends in Lagos. A Muslim. I will go to Sokoto and spend the Sallah with the Sultan and bring everybody together and we will discuss the future. I will go to Kano,” Obi said.
He also told the station that the NDC plans to set up its own system for transmitting results straight from polling units to the party’s situation room ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi added that he had not turned down any offer to serve as running mate to Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, in that same election.
