The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has expressed concern over the unethical and unauthorized transfer of ongoing cases by certain officers.
In a statement issued by the Nigeria Police Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized that transparency, professionalism, and accountability must remain the cornerstone of police operations and that such practices will no longer be tolerated.
He directed all officers, particularly those in investigative units, to handle cases with diligence and integrity.
Egbetokun condemned the practice of transferring cases between formations without proper authorization causing unnecessary delays, burdens the parties involved, and wastes resources.
He reaffirmed that cases must be investigated within the jurisdiction where the alleged offense occurred, except where explicit approval has been granted by his office.
In such instances, investigations must be supervised by State Commissioners of Police, who will be held accountable for both the process and outcome.
