Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed his deep anguish and private tears over what he terms the “betrayal” by the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara. Wike, speaking during a live media chat in Abuja on Monday, described the political fallout, which intensified since Fubara’s suspension in March 2025, as a profound personal hurt.
“When I go back in my quiet moments, I play the video of the speeches of the governor, what he said, what he did to me, I weep,” Wike candidly admitted, expressing disbelief at the actions of someone he claims to have significantly supported.
“This is somebody who brought you, gave you food, gave you everything, did this to you, and then you became a tool for his enemies to fight him,” Wike lamented, highlighting the sense of ingratitude he feels.
The FCT Minister drew a poignant analogy to illustrate the depth of his pain, comparing the situation to a parent’s sacrifice for their child, only for that child to turn against them. “You know what you go through by sending your son to school? You know what you go through to make him a human being. All of a sudden, in the night, your son came with two people with guns to shoot you… Somehow, God helped you. You didn’t die.”
When questioned about Fubara’s alleged remorse and attempts at reconciliation, Wike remained skeptical. He dismissed “politics of television” and recalled a meeting with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who brought Fubara to his house. “They said he’s ready to make peace, this and that. I said I don’t have a problem if you want to make peace; he has a yam, he has a knife. He said he was travelling. He travelled. I’ve not seen Sim since that day.”
Wike stressed that any genuine peace efforts must involve key political stakeholders, including the Rivers State House of Assembly members and party leaders. While acknowledging President Bola Tinubu’s call for peace, Wike emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “It will be difficult for me to disobey Mr President, but he should know that it’s not water that is flowing here (pointing to his hand), it’s blood.”
He further accused Fubara’s camp of being manipulated by political adversaries who previously sought to undermine Wike. “These are people who vowed that you will never be governor. These are people who petitioned you to EFCC… Then you provided yourself how to bring Wike down.”
