Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has confirmed that he and former governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, have resolved their political differences, marking a crucial step toward lasting peace in the state.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fubara said the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu had been challenging but ultimately allowed all parties to reconcile.
“In the course of the six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered the peace process with all the parties successfully. Our Leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I, as your Governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” he said.
The governor’s return to office follows the lifting of the emergency rule, which was imposed by President Tinubu in March 2025. The crisis had led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The emergency rule, which lasted until mid-September, ended with the restoration of democratic governance.
The peace deal, brokered during the crisis, ended the public rift between Fubara and Wike, his predecessor and former political ally. The governor’s announcement comes amid lingering political tensions in Rivers, which have seen repeated clashes between rival factions loyal to him and the FCT Minister.
