•Former LP candidate emphasizes vision over geography; meets ADC chieftains and Kwankwaso in nationwide consultations.
Mr. Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has asserted that the seat of power is defined by leadership quality rather than geographical location. Speaking in Kaduna on Sunday, Obi stated that he could effectively govern the country from the northern state if elected, dismissing the notion that the presidency must be confined to the walls of the Federal Capital Territory.
Addressing stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi noted that the proximity between Kaduna and Abuja makes it feasible for a sitting president to operate from the state. “Abuja to Kaduna is less than two hours; so nothing stops a president from attending meetings here and returning. In fact, I can serve Nigeria from Kaduna without a single problem,” he said.
The visit is part of a broader nationwide consultation move by Obi, who recently met with New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Kano.
During the Kaduna session, Obi lamented the decline of the state’s industrial and agricultural sectors, promising that “disciplined and competent leadership” could restore its status as a commercial hub. He further warned that national progress would remain elusive as long as the country remains divided. “A divided society cannot progress,” he cautioned, calling for a united and inclusive Nigeria.
