A political advocacy group has called on Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in what it describes as an emerging “defection plot” involving Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

In a statement circulated on Monday, the group alleged that recent political manoeuvres within the All Progressives Congress (APC) suggest attempts to pressure the governor into switching parties. It urged Tinubu to call the APC national chairman to order, warning that the alleged moves could heighten political tensions and destabilise the state’s fragile political landscape.

The group did not provide detailed evidence for its claim but argued that such pressures, if left unchecked, could undermine democratic norms and inflame partisan conflicts.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the APC leadership nor the presidency had issued an official response to the allegation.

The controversy adds to ongoing political jostling between the ruling party and opposition blocs, especially in states where electoral disputes and governance alignments remain sensitive.
