The former national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has welcomed Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the party, while sharply criticising former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for branding him an enemy.
Speaking during a public engagement, Ganduje said the APC was open to receiving Governor Yusuf, describing the party as a broad platform capable of accommodating diverse political interests. He stressed that political differences should not translate into personal hostility.
Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, however, took exception to comments attributed to Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who reportedly described him as an enemy.
“I am not anybody’s enemy,” Ganduje said, rejecting the characterisation and calling for a more civil and issue-based political discourse.
He argued that disagreements within Kano’s political space should be resolved through dialogue rather than inflammatory rhetoric, adding that politics should be about service to the people, not personal battles.
Kwankwaso, a former defence minister and influential political figure in northern Nigeria, has not publicly responded to Ganduje’s latest remarks.
The exchange reflects ongoing political realignments and tensions in Kano State, a key battleground in Nigeria’s northern politics, as parties position themselves ahead of future electoral contests.
