Prominent Nigerian political figure Buba Galadima has accused major media outlets and politicians of being complicit in the alleged listing of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso on a United States terrorism watchlist.

Speaking in a recent statement, Galadima dismissed the allegations against Kwankwaso as politically motivated.

“Kwankwaso did not implement Sharia according to the dictates of Sharia — that is how Ibrahim Shekarau became Governor of Kano. How can anybody accuse Kwankwaso, who lost during the battle over Sharia? What about those who started it?” he said.

Galadima argued that the claims were being used as a political tool to undermine Kwankwaso’s ambitions, particularly as he is considered a potential candidate for the Nigerian presidency or vice presidency.

“This is just politics being played by people who fear Kwankwaso running for president or vice president, so they have to eliminate him,” he added.

The controversy has sparked debate in Nigeria over the intersection of media reporting, political rivalry, and international scrutiny. Kwankwaso, a key figure in the opposition, has not publicly commented on the alleged watchlist listing.

Galadima’s comments highlight the tense political climate ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming elections, with the country’s opposition figures increasingly facing scrutiny and accusations from rivals.
