In a bid to promote responsible behavior and uphold the values of the Fulani culture, socio-cultural groups representing the Fulani community in Nasarawa State have banned unregulated Sallah celebrations among youth.
The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, the two prominent Fulani associations in the state, made the decision following concerns over the conduct of some youth during past celebrations.
According to a statement signed by Dr. Isa Ali, Public Relations Officer of the groups, the decision was taken to prevent activities that contradict the true spirit of Sallah, such as reckless gatherings, disorderly conduct, and unnecessary street processions.
The statement expressed concern that some celebrations had become associated with behaviors that create tension among parents, community leaders, and security authorities, including reckless riding of motorcycles and vehicles, public disturbances, and moral concerns.
The groups emphasized that the intention is not to deny youth happiness but to guide them towards celebrations that are respectful, responsible, and consistent with Islamic and Fulani values.
The statement urged Fulani youth to celebrate Sallah in a manner that promotes peace, family unity, and community development, focusing on prayers, visiting relatives, helping the less privileged, and strengthening brotherhood.
The State Chairman , Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Alhaji Akajo Abubakar Gyara called on Ardos, community leaders, parents, and youth coordinators to support and enforce the decision, ensuring that celebrations align with Fulani culture and Islamic teachings. He urged them to cooperates with the directive and ensure compliances across the State.
