A shocking legislative probe exposes widespread food adulteration using industrial poisons, bleach, and insecticide, forcing the Senate to declare a national public health emergency.
The Nigerian Senate has triggered a nationwide panic after releasing a damning report that revealed the rampant and dangerous use of toxic chemicals throughout the country’s food supply chain. Lawmakers declared the crisis a “public health emergency” following an investigation that found citizens are routinely consuming “slow poison.” The probe uncovered practices including the use of calcium carbide to ripen fruits, paracetamol to soften meat, and highly toxic Sniper (Dichlorvos) insecticide to preserve grains. In response, the Senate has moved to strengthen laws and impose stiffer penalties on offenders, while directing federal agencies to launch immediate, aggressive enforcement drives across all markets and processing centers.
