France has adjusted the dates for the upcoming G7 summit to ensure the attendance of U.S. President Donald Trump, a senior American official confirmed Friday.
The summit, originally slated for June 14–16, has been moved to June 15–17. The rescheduling follows reports that President Trump is set to host a mixed martial arts (MMA) event at the White House on June 14, which coincides with his 80th birthday.
“Our partners believed that President Trump’s attendance at the G7 summit was essential,” a senior official told AFP, corroborating an earlier report by Politico regarding the shift.
Diplomatic Consultations
In Paris, the office of French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the change, describing the new dates as the “result of consultations with all of our G7 partners.”
The G7, or Group of Seven, comprises Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States. Leadership of the group rotates annually among member nations, with the presiding country responsible for organizing the year’s summits and high-level ministerial meetings.
