The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election, delivering a decisive win in one of the most closely watched contests under the #FCTDecides2026 polls.

Electoral officials in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) announced the result after collation of votes across the wards in Bwari, confirming that the APC candidate polled the highest number of valid votes cast, defeating contenders from rival parties.

The Bwari chairmanship race formed part of the broader area council elections conducted across the FCT, a vote seen by analysts as a key political barometer ahead of future national contests. Bwari, one of the six area councils in the territory, has historically been politically competitive, making the outcome particularly significant.

Party supporters celebrated across parts of the council shortly after the declaration, describing the victory as a reflection of grassroots mobilisation and voter confidence in the APC’s local governance agenda.

Opposition parties have yet to issue comprehensive statements on the outcome, though some have indicated they are reviewing the results.

The FCT area council elections oversee leadership at the grassroots level, with chairpersons responsible for local administration, infrastructure development, and community services within their jurisdictions.

With the Bwari result now confirmed, attention shifts to the performance of other parties across the remaining councils, as stakeholders assess what the #FCTDecides2026 outcomes signal for the evolving political landscape in the nation’s capital.
