Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has delivered a damning verdict on the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the once-powerful political force is now “a carcass” and could finish fourth in the 2027 general elections.
Fayose made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, where he voiced his frustration over the internal rot and decline within the party.
“The soul of PDP is gone, the spirit is gone — it’s only the body that’s left,” Fayose said. “With more prayers, PDP may come fourth in 2027. APC will come first, Obi will be second, ADC will take third, and PDP will be lucky to follow.”
The former governor accused the party’s leadership of sidelining committed members and allowing key figures to defect, leaving the party “too weak to grab anything lately.”
“It’s shameful to be associated with PDP the way it stands now,” he added. “Those who mattered have all left. What’s left is a structure that lacks strength, direction, or purpose.”
Despite his harsh criticism, Fayose insisted he remains loyal to the party, although he ruled out joining any of its rivals.
“I’ve paid my dues in this party,” he said. “But let me be clear I’ll never join APC, I’ll never join Labour Party, and I won’t be part of ADC either. If I ever leave PDP, I’m going back home.”
Fayose’s comments come at a time when opposition parties are under pressure to reposition ahead of the 2027 elections. The PDP, which lost federal power in 2015 and has since struggled to rebuild, continues to battle internal wranglings, regional divisions, and a loss of public confidence.
He also alleged that in many states, the party had already been compromised, with grassroots leaders being forced out.
“They’ve eased out so many people. Managing PDP has now become an issue. The leadership is not even listening,” he lamented.
