Nigerians trooped out in numbers on Monday to welcome the Super Falcons as they returned to Abuja after clinching their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.

The team arrived aboard a chartered flight at about 2:26pm at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, where fans, top government officials and sports administrators gathered to receive them.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade stepped off the aircraft with the trophy raised high, drawing cheers from the crowd and chants of “Super Falcons! Champions!”

“This is a proud moment for the country. These women have shown what it means to fight for the flag,” said Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, who led the delegation at the airport.

Officials confirmed that President Bola Tinubu will host the team at the Presidential Villa, with a nationwide celebration planned in their honour.

Ajibade told reporters: “We’re happy to be home. It’s not just about the trophy, it’s about the message to every girl in Nigeria that nothing is impossible.”

More details shortly.
