An explosion struck the US embassy in Oslo in the early hours of Sunday morning, causing minor damage but no injuries, according to Norwegian police.

The blast occurred around 1:00 a.m. local time (0000 GMT) at the entrance of the embassy’s consular section, Oslo Police said in a statement.

Police Incident Commander Michael Dellemyr told public broadcaster NRK that officers responded immediately after receiving multiple reports of an explosion. “We arrived shortly afterwards and confirmed that there had been an explosion that hit the US embassy,” Dellemyr said.

While declining to provide specific details about the damage or the nature of the device, citing the early stage of the investigation, Dellemyr confirmed to TV2 that authorities “have an idea of the cause.” He added, “It appears to us that this is an act carried out by someone.”

A heavy police presence was deployed to the scene, and investigators are speaking with witnesses. A bomb squad was also dispatched, according to TV2. Police said they remain in contact with the US embassy as the investigation continues.
