The immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Babatunde Mohammed, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing a loss of hope in his former party.

Mr Mohammed, who served as Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly from 2009 to 2011 under the PDP, confirmed his defection in a statement and resignation letter dated 15 October 2025.

“I joined the PDP in 2002 and never left, even when many of its leaders in the state decamped to the APC. I stayed out of loyalty,” he said. “But as things stand, there is no hope left in the PDP. I have now joined the ADC.”

While noting that his reasons for leaving were personal, Mr Mohammed made it clear that his time in the PDP had come to an end after 23 years of uninterrupted membership.

“This is to officially inform you that I have resigned my membership of the PDP from Wednesday 15th October 2025,” he wrote in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Agunjin Ward, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

He also expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their support during his tenure, especially while serving as state chairman.

His defection marks a major shift in Kwara’s political scene, with the ADC gaining a high-profile former Speaker and state party leader.
