Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, was still in EFCC custody late Monday after spending hours inside the commission’s headquarters.
He arrived that morning and was questioned over claims that his administration looted roughly ₦432 billion, as set out in a 2024 report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly. Investigators say they have also linked him to the alleged phone-tapping of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, a charge that could land him in court.
According to an EFCC source, the probe has been running quietly for about a year. “We don’t haul people in first,” the official said. “Suspects are invited only after the bulk of the evidence is already in place. The Kaduna Assembly’s petition is what we’re working through.”
Asked whether El-Rufai would walk free before midnight, the source replied, “He’s still here; he won’t be leaving today.”
