Nigeria’s anti-graft agency has rearrested former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman just days after he was sentenced to 75 years in prison over a multibillion-naira fraud linked to the controversial Mambilla and Zungeru power projects.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) confirmed that Mamman was taken into custody in Kaduna State, intensifying one of Nigeria’s most high-profile corruption cases involving the power sector.

Mamman had earlier been convicted over the alleged diversion of ₦33.8 billion tied to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects — two flagship energy schemes intended to boost Nigeria’s electricity supply.

His sentencing marked a significant moment in the country’s anti-corruption drive, with prosecutors accusing the former minister of abusing public trust and siphoning funds earmarked for critical infrastructure development.

The circumstances surrounding his latest arrest were not immediately disclosed, but the development has triggered fresh attention on the long-running investigation and the wider accountability crisis in Nigeria’s power sector.

The EFCC has yet to issue further details on whether the rearrest is connected to additional charges or ongoing investigations.
