The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has forcefully taken possession of the Maitama residence of the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

The operation, which began on Monday and concluded on Tuesday morning, saw armed EFCC operatives barricading Koronakh Close in the high-brow Maitama district.

Addressing a press conference following the eviction, Malami condemned the move as “legally and judicially unprecedented,” noting that the matter is currently before the Federal High Court. He confirmed that he and his family were removed from the property located at No. 2, Koronakh Close, despite an ongoing legal challenge against an interim forfeiture order granted on January 6, 2026.

“Without seeking an order to seal my properties or to evict my family, the EFCC came to effect a forceful eviction,” Malami stated. “It is only natural that no party is expected to overreach by taking unilateral steps that would place a court in a situation of purposelessness.”

While Malami acknowledged the interim forfeiture order, he argued it did not grant the commission the power to evict occupants. He further hinted at potential political undertones, noting the timing of the move following his recent release from detention.

The case has been adjourned until April 20, 2026. Efforts to reach the EFCC’s legal team or Malami’s lead counsel, J.B. Daudu (SAN), for further comments were unsuccessful at the time of press.
