Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence has refuted claims that Channels Television was barred from covering the nation’s Remembrance Day symposium, insisting that all media houses were free to participate.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry said there was no directive prohibiting Channels TV from attending or reporting on the event, stressing its commitment to transparency and media freedom.
“We never barred Channels TV or any other media organisation from attending the Remembrance Day symposium,” the statement read. “All accredited media were allowed to cover the proceedings in accordance with standard protocol.”
The clarification comes after reports circulated suggesting that the television network had been excluded from the official event. The ministry described these reports as “inaccurate” and urged the public to rely on official sources for information.
Remembrance Day, an annual event honouring the sacrifices of Nigeria’s armed forces, attracts wide media coverage and participation from government officials, military personnel, and civil society representatives.
