The Egba Economic Summit Group (EESG) has appealed to the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to expedite the completion of the long-delayed Abeokuta–Ajebo Road, warning that continued neglect of the project poses serious economic and safety risks to Ogun State.

In a statement issued on Monday, the group described the road as a critical economic corridor linking Abeokuta to key industrial, agricultural and residential hubs. It noted that the poor condition of the route has disrupted commercial activities, increased transportation costs and exposed commuters to frequent accidents.

The EESG said traders, farmers and small business owners who rely on the road daily are bearing the brunt of the delays, with goods often damaged or delayed due to bad sections of the highway. According to the group, the situation has also discouraged potential investors from exploring opportunities along the corridor.

Beyond economic concerns, the summit group raised alarm over growing safety challenges, citing reports of accidents and security threats linked to the deteriorating state of the road. It stressed that timely completion of the project would significantly reduce travel risks and improve access to essential services.

While acknowledging the federal government’s broader commitment to road infrastructure development, the EESG urged Minister Umahi to prioritise the Abeokuta–Ajebo Road, arguing that its completion would deliver immediate and visible benefits to the people of Ogun State.

The group reaffirmed its willingness to engage constructively with the Ministry of Works and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the project is completed to standard and within a reasonable timeframe.
