The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on instructors and officers at the Depot Nigerian Army in Osogbo, Osun State, to embrace more passionate and result-oriented training methods aimed at developing highly capable soldiers.

During his operational visit to the training facility on Monday, 21 July 2025, General Oluyede underscored the importance of professionalism, discipline, and quality training as essential elements for strengthening the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness.

“We must raise a breed of soldiers that the Nigerian people can be proud of,” the COAS stated. “The task of shaping these young recruits into formidable and disciplined personnel rests on the shoulders of you, their instructors. Train them with passion, train them with purpose.”

While addressing officers and training staff, the Army Chief reiterated his commitment to repositioning the Nigerian Army in line with its constitutional duties. He encouraged Depot personnel to key into his strategic vision aimed at enhancing operational capacity across all formations.

General Oluyede also conducted an inspection tour of training grounds and infrastructure at the Osogbo Depot, assessing the condition of facilities and identifying areas requiring urgent upgrade. The assessment, he said, was part of broader efforts to raise training standards and operational readiness across the Army.

“The quality of infrastructure directly affects the quality of training we offer. Improving these facilities is not just desirable it is necessary,” he added.

The Army Chief’s visit forms part of a wider tour of military formations across the country aimed at reinforcing command presence, boosting troop morale, and driving institutional reform in line with modern security demands.

Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the visit in a statement released on Monday.
