Kaduna, Nigeria – In a move seen as a strategic counter-response, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, led the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to a meeting with former President Muhammadu Buhari at his Kaduna residence on Friday.
This visit occurred mere hours after a high-profile delegation of opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai, also met with Buhari, sparking speculation about potential political alliances.
El-Rufai, speaking to reporters after his group’s meeting, downplayed any political significance, urging “adversaries” to dismiss concerns.
The APC leadership, however, remained tight-lipped about the specifics of their discussions with Buhari. Their visit follows a recent delegation of APC governors, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who delivered Sallah greetings and congratulated Buhari on the conclusion of Ramadan.
The flurry of meetings has fueled concerns surrounding the loyalty of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) faction within the APC, of which Buhari is a key founding member. Speculation about a potential defection has been circulating, given the recent opposition outreach.
Despite these rumors, Buhari has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, stating unequivocally that he has no plans to leave the ruling party. This declaration aims to quell the growing anxieties within the APC ranks and solidify his continued support for the party.
