Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been named Iran’s new supreme leader, according to state media reports.

The 56-year-old was confirmed as his father’s successor on Sunday following a vote by the Assembly of Experts, a group of senior clerics responsible for appointing the country’s highest authority.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed last Saturday during US and Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran.
