Blessing Fubara Snr. has left the All Progressives Congress for the Nigeria Democratic Congress. A community development expert and longtime political player in Rivers State, he made the move ahead of the 2027 elections. It feels like one of the first clear shifts in a contest that’s already starting to take shape.

Fubara, who is related to the state governor, announced his decision in Abuja. The NDC’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, welcomed him into the party there, with other senior figures on hand.

He called the NDC “a moving train.” His reasons centered on worry about Rivers State’s political future and the stability of the place as tensions keep building. The “soul of Rivers State is at stake,” he said. People are more and more determined to “reclaim their state” at the 2027 polls. He insisted the state would see real change afterward. “Rivers will be okay,” he added.

Who is Blessing Fubara?

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Development and Adult Education. Today he serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of D’Consiglories LLC.

He has moved between public and private work for years. Past positions include Technical Assistant to the Rivers State Government on Employment Generation and Empowerment, Resource Consultant to the Niger Delta Development Commission on Youth Development, and Consultant to the Rivers State Government on Urban Renewal and Infrastructure Development.

Beyond those roles he has stayed busy with community projects, youth empowerment programs, and advocacy around urban renewal plus broader economic growth in Rivers State and the Niger Delta.

His switch gives an extra push to the political positioning already underway in the state. Plenty of actors are staking out ground early for 2027.
