At least two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service have been killed in a deadly Boko Haram attack on Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
The assault, which occurred last Thursday, was not immediately reported due to poor telecommunications in the area, with details only reaching Maiduguri days later. Monguno, situated some 136 kilometres from the state capital, lies at the centre of the Northern Borno Senatorial District—an area long plagued by insurgent violence.
Military troops were said to have responded swiftly, repelling the attack, though the number of terrorist casualties remains unconfirmed.
A military source, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, disclosed that the bodies of the slain officers had been recovered and deposited at a hospital mortuary, pending burial. Families of the victims have since been formally notified.
