Bauchi governor Bala Mohammed on Wednesday welcomed APC members of the House of Representatives from the state to his Abuja residence, signaling his next move toward quitting the PDP.

Dabo Ismail, who represents Toro federal constituency, told reporters after the closed-door session that the governor summoned them “to consult stakeholders ahead of his planned defection to the ruling party.”

“We’re here on a special invitation to talk about the political realignment in Nigeria, especially in Bauchi, and to sort out the pressing issues holding our state back. We’ve reached some positive conclusions,” Ismail said.

“By God’s grace we’ll state our position in a few days. For now, we’ll keep consulting and brief party leaders and other key actors. We also expect His Excellency to weigh the issues we’ve tabled.”

The Abuja meeting follows another high-profile sit-down. On 1 April Mohammed hosted APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Kano governor Abba Yusuf at the Bauchi Government House. A day earlier, while receiving members of the African Democratic Congress, the governor had openly said he was weighing a switch to the APC with his supporters.
