Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of orchestrating a plan to “destroy” him by using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to target members of his cabinet.
Mohammed, who chairs the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, made the allegation on Thursday during an appearance on *Sunrise Daily*, a programme on Channels Television.
He claimed the federal government is deploying the EFCC to “persecute” him and his cabinet due to their refusal to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor’s remarks follow the recent arraignment of Yakubu Adamu, Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, by the EFCC over allegations of money laundering and terror funding involving N5.79 billion.
Mohammed asserted that despite his constitutional immunity, his name has been included in an EFCC motion targeting members of his administration.
“The president is surrounded by hooligans and charlatans who want to destroy me. Some want me to join the APC, some do not—like Wike,” Mohammed stated. “Wike is a big drag on the administration, and the president should know. He wants to destroy me.”
He also questioned Wike’s political allegiance, noting that the minister cannot associate with the APC while claiming membership in the PDP. A PDP faction led by Mohammed had expelled Wike in November for alleged anti-party activities.
“He is an undertaker in our party. He is not a genuine member of the PDP,” Mohammed added.
Addressing the terrorism allegations, the governor described them as “baseless,” emphasizing that Bauchi is one of the most peaceful states in the north.
“I am a serving governor, and my state is the most secure in the north-east, if not in northern Nigeria,” he said. “To be accused of terrorism is very painful.”
Mohammed confirmed he has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, heads of security agencies, and the international community to clear his name.
