• Calls for Proactive Communication to Address Northern Concerns
•• criticised the administration’s communication approach
Dr Babangida Aliyu, former Niger State Governor and Chairman of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its achievements but criticised its poor communication with the public. Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Aliyu commented on a recent accountability forum in Kaduna, where federal ministers showcased the government’s progress to northern stakeholders.
Addressing claims of northern marginalisation, Aliyu argued that public discontent stems not from a lack of results but from the government’s failure to effectively share its successes. “Ministers and agency heads must proactively communicate their work, not rely solely on the Ministry of Information,” he said, noting that issues like insecurity and poverty have overshadowed positive efforts.
Aliyu stressed that the North, which provided 63-64% of Tinubu’s votes, has high expectations. “The government is performing, but it must advocate for itself and engage transparently with citizens,” he urged.
