Paul Ibe, media adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed claims that the ex-PDP presidential candidate is preparing to run for office again in 2027.

The statement comes after a video resurfaced on social media showing Atiku speaking about his political future. Many online users interpreted the footage as a fresh declaration of interest in the 2027 presidential race.

But Ibe said the video is old and being deliberately misrepresented.

“That video was recorded in 2022, shortly before the PDP presidential primary,” he explained.

According to him, Atiku’s confident tone in the clip simply reflected the mindset of a serious contender preparing for a national contest.

“He sounded confident because that is what is expected of a man who had worked hard and was optimistic of victory in the primaries of the 2023 election,” Ibe said.

He accused political opponents of deliberately recycling the clip to mislead the public.

“This is mischief. It is important to provide the context of this video to deprive mischief makers of the opportunity to twist the facts,” he added.

Atiku, who served as Nigeria’s Vice President between 1999 and 2007, has contested for the presidency multiple times, including his most recent run under the Peoples Democratic Party in 2023.
