Abuja, Nigeria – Parts of the Presidential Villa, Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Lifecamp, Asokoro, Utako, and Mabushi are currently experiencing power outages following the vandalism of a critical transmission line.
Vandals targeted a 132kV transmission line near the Menillum Park axis of Abuja, stealing 40 meters of 1x500mm XLPE conductor. This incident disrupted the supply of bulk electricity to the Central Area transmission substation in Katampe, impacting eight distribution feeders and affecting over 60 percent of Abuja’s power supply.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday. “Consequently, areas experiencing power outage include Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and parts of the Presidential Villa,” said Ndidi Mbah, TCN General Manager of Public Affairs.
Mbah stated that a team of engineers has been dispatched to the site to expedite repairs and restore power to the affected areas as quickly as possible.
The TCN expressed concern over the ongoing issue of cable vandalism, which continues to disrupt power delivery across the country. The company urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and help protect transmission equipment to prevent further such incidents.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) also confirmed the outage in a notice to its customers.
