The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that, despite endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term, the party’s 2027 presidential ticket remains open to all members who wish to contest.
Sulaiman Argungu, APC’s National Organising Secretary, made the statement on Wednesday while addressing journalists at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
“We will certainly not shut the door on other presidential hopefuls,” Argungu said. “When the time comes, the party’s timetable will be released, and anyone interested will be free to purchase the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms. No member will be denied the right to seek the mandate.”
He stressed that the endorsement of President Tinubu was not a restriction but rather a show of appreciation for his current performance in office. “We never said the door was locked. We only emphasised our support for the President, recognising his efforts to improve the country and affirming that he deserves a second term, which was why he was endorsed.”
