The leader of Nigeria’s Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is working towards mobilising at least 10 million votes from the South-West region to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Bamidele disclosed the target while speaking during the inauguration of a 57-member governorship campaign council in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State. He said the party had developed a mobilisation strategy aimed at consolidating support across the six states in the South-West geopolitical zone ahead of the next general elections.

According to the Senate leader, the plan involves intensifying grassroots mobilisation and encouraging eligible voters to participate in the ongoing voter registration process.

“As a party of conviction and vision, we have already set a target ahead of the 2027 elections to deliver at least 10 million votes for President Tinubu from the South-West alone,” Bamidele said.

He urged party leaders and supporters to actively mobilise residents in their communities to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that broad participation would be crucial to achieving the target.

Bamidele added that the effort would involve door-to-door engagement and community-level campaigns aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots presence across the region.

The Senate leader also linked the mobilisation drive to the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti, scheduled for June 20, describing the contest as an opportunity for the APC to demonstrate its political strength in the state. He expressed confidence that the party’s candidate and incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, would secure re-election.

Oyebanji, in his remarks, thanked party leaders for their support and pledged to run an issue-based campaign focused on policies and development initiatives rather than personal attacks.

Nigeria’s next general elections are expected to take place in early 2027, with political parties already intensifying preparations and mobilising support across the country.
