In a sharp rebuke, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Emeka Beke, leader of a faction aligned with former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, an “impostor” for claiming chairmanship of its Rivers State chapter. The party’s national leadership has urged members and the public to dismiss Beke’s assertions as baseless and misleading.

The controversy erupted after Beke stormed the APC national secretariat last week, submitting a petition demanding recognition as state chairman and calling for the suspension of the upcoming council primary election in Rivers State. However, the APC swiftly reaffirmed Chief Tony Okocha, a close ally of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, as the legitimate state chairman.

In a statement issued on Saturday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka clarified: “The All Progressives Congress categorically rejects media reports suggesting Mr Emeka Beke is the chairman of our Rivers State chapter. Chief Tony Okocha is, and remains, the duly recognised chairman. We call on our loyal members and the public to disregard these false claims.”

The APC’s firm stance underscores ongoing tensions within its Rivers State chapter, as rival factions vie for control ahead of critical party primaries.
