Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former political adviser to the presidency and a prominent voice from the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), has delivered a scathing critique of the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling it a “political refugee camp.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed expressed deep concern over the influx of politicians defecting to the ruling party. He argued that these defections are driven by self-serving motives, primarily the pursuit of political office or an attempt to evade prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“With all this party bulging with people running away from prosecution, people looking for offices, the APC is growing with a lot of the wrong people,” he asserted. “All these defections are informed by only one thing, they’re looking for positions or they’re running away from EFCC.”
Baba-Ahmed further warned that these individuals, far from being assets, pose a significant liability to the APC. He predicted that the party, burdened by such “political refugees,” is headed for an inevitable implosion.
“But I’m telling you, the people who are running into the APC from all over the place are actually a liability to the APC. It’s just simply a refugee camp… political refugee camp, and it will burst,” he reiterated.
His comments highlight growing concerns about the integrity and direction of the APC, as it navigates the complex landscape of Nigerian politics.
