President Bola Tinubu, 32 state governors and more than 8,000 delegates are already filing into Abuja for the All Progressives Congress national convention, a meeting that will reshape the party’s top brass.
The event, holding at Eagle Square, is set to elect new members of the National Working Committee and draw party powerbrokers from every state.
Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris calls the gathering “both a decision-making forum and a moment to lock in the party’s direction under the Renewed Hope agenda.” Accredited delegates—8,400 of them from the 36 states and the FCT—will vote in the exercise, meant to align the party structure with the administration’s policy line.

Although leaders promise a smooth ride, some members complain they have been shut out of the contests; for now they are taking their grievances through internal channels rather than to court.
The city feels the weight of the event: hotels are full, security is tight and the government has told civil servants in affected districts to stay home and log in remotely.
Party chiefs still sound upbeat, insisting the convention will go off without a hitch and arguing that a unified APC is vital ahead of the 2027 general elections.
