The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has broken his silence on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, outlining clear conditions for Governor Siminalaye Fubara’s bid for a second term in office.
In a statement shared via @politicsngr on Tuesday, the APC leader addressed the internal party tensions that have threatened to destabilise the party’s cohesion in the oil-rich southern state. He stressed that any endorsement for Fubara’s reelection would be contingent on strict adherence to party directives, internal democracy, and the resolution of lingering disputes among local stakeholders.
“The APC remains committed to unity, transparency, and due process,” the chairman said. “Governor Fubara’s second term will only proceed if all party mechanisms are respected and conflicts resolved.”
Political analysts say the chairman’s comments signal a strategic attempt to quell infighting within the party ahead of the 2027 elections, while also asserting the central leadership’s influence over state-level politics.
Rivers State has witnessed months of political turbulence, with factional disputes and disagreements over candidate selection threatening to fracture APC’s dominance in the region. The chairman’s intervention is seen as a decisive step to prevent a repeat of past electoral setbacks.
Fubara, who has not publicly responded to the latest remarks, is widely regarded as a key figure in the APC’s strategy to maintain its hold on Rivers State, a political and economic stronghold.
Observers will be closely monitoring the situation to see whether the governor and party stakeholders can meet the conditions set by the national leadership, as tensions continue to simmer ahead of the next electoral cycle.
