The African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Chioma Ifemeludike, has faulted the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, saying his government has failed to prioritise the safety and welfare of residents.
Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme monitored by Observers Times, Ifemeludike said the November 8 governorship election offers the people of Anambra a chance to demand leadership that values human life.
According to her, the state has witnessed avoidable loss of lives due to what she described as the administration’s poor handling of security.
> “For me, there is so much to be done in Anambra State, and we haven’t seen it under Professor Soludo’s leadership,” she said.
“Especially in security, there were so many deaths that could have been averted. When human lives are concerned, the government’s primary duty should be to protect its people. With all the allocations and internally generated revenue, people’s lives should matter.”
Ifemeludike criticised what she called the “complacency” of the current administration, noting that despite significant federal allocations and internally generated revenue, citizens still live in fear and deprivation.
She promised that, if elected, her administration would focus on people-centred governance that upholds human dignity, strengthens community policing, and ensures transparency in public spending.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigeria Police Force have both expressed readiness to conduct a peaceful and credible election on Saturday, November 8.
Security agencies have assured residents and stakeholders of adequate protection before, during, and after the polls, while the electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a free and fair process.
The Anambra governorship election has drawn national attention, with major political parties including the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party (LP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Young Progressives Party (YPP) fielding candidates in what is expected to be a tightly contested race.
