The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is embroiled in a leadership crisis after its former Gombe State governorship candidate, Nafiu Bala, declared himself the party’s interim national chairman.
Bala, who previously served as the ADC’s deputy national chairman, accused former party leaders of abandoning their constitutional duties and handing over control to “powerful outsiders” with no ties to the party.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Bala condemned what he described as “political hooliganism” and vowed to restore constitutional order.
“As the duly elected deputy national chairman, I now assume my constitutional responsibility as interim national chairman,” he stated.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the leadership change, warning that legal action would follow if his demands were ignored.
The ADC has yet to issue an official response.
