A delegation of the Adamawa Progressive Elders Council on Friday met with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, at his Abuja residence and pledged to work for party unity and electoral success in Adamawa State.
Led by His Excellency General Buba Marwa, the delegation included Senator Abubakar Halilu Girei, Barrister Bala James Nggilari, Hon. Muktari Idi Maiha, Mrs. Olvadi Bema Madayi, Barrister Baba Isa and Ahmad Sajoh. Professor Tahir Mamman SAN sent apologies owing to flight delays. National Vice Chairman North East of the APC, Comrade Salihu Mustapha, attended to lend the visit additional support.
The elders council told the national chairman it was formed to ensure the APC wins future elections in Adamawa through “united and unified action free from internal strife and rancour.” To that end, the group has established committees for mobilisation and for conflict resolution, aimed at bringing key figures into the party fold and resolving disputes that often arise around congresses and primaries.
The council reiterated its loyalty to APC leadership at all levels and said it would respect decisions of the party. Delegation leaders said the council emerged from recommendations of a reconciliation committee set up by former national chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and is “supported strongly by the NSA as the leader of the APC in Adamawa State.”
On party organisation, the elders highlighted the success of the ongoing e‑registration exercise in Adamawa, noting the state currently ranks fourth nationwide with about 430,000 registered members — a result they attributed to cooperation between the council, the state Working Committee and stakeholders.
The delegation requested stronger inclusion of Adamawa members at national party activities and asked that the omission of Adamawa from the list of the National Convention Coordinating Committee be corrected. Professor Yilwatda told the visitors “it will be corrected” and assured them of involvement in Congress committees that will oversee congresses in other states. He also accepted the council’s request to register the Adamawa Progressive Elders Council as a recognised APC support group.
The elders invited the National Chairman to preside over a planned mega rally and reception for Adamawa political appointees of the Tinubu administration; Yilwatda accepted.
Professor Yilwatda expressed appreciation for the delegation, reaffirmed the National Working Committee’s commitment to strengthening the party across the federation, and welcomed the council’s position. He pledged to address the Convention Committee oversight and to register the council as a support group at national headquarters.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment to secure a decisive victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in Adamawa in 2027 and to ensure that the state’s governorship and legislative seats are won by APC candidates by May 29, 2027.
